How to send website feedback to Slack

Every new comment as a card with its screenshot, kept up to date, with replies and changes in its thread.

Connect a project to a Slack channel and every new comment arrives as a card with its screenshot. The card stays up to date, and everything that happens after it goes in its thread. It works on every plan, including Free.

Connect it

  1. Open the project's settings

Use Settings in the ⋯ on the project's card, or the gear at the top of its board, then choose Integrations. You need to be an owner or admin.

  2. Press Add to Slack

Slack opens and asks you to allow the app.

  3. Choose the channel

Pick the channel on Slack's screen and allow it.

  4. Choose what to send

You come back to What to send. The defaults are sensible: new comments, replies and status changes.

  5. Send a test

It posts a real card from your project's latest comment.

What arrives in the channel

  • The comment's number and project, linked to the board.
  • The author's words, with their formatting.
  • The details you chose: page, assignee, status, priority, due date, tags and so on.
  • The screenshot, and any attached files as links.
  • View on site to open the pin on the live page, and View in ReviewMySites for the board.

A comment is saved before its screenshot has finished uploading, so the picture can appear a moment after the card does. That is normal: the card is redrawn when it lands.

How it stays up to date

Change anything in ReviewMySites and the card changes with it: the status, the assignee, the due date, the tags, even the words. A note goes in the card's thread saying what changed and who changed it, and replies go there too, so the channel itself stays quiet. If a comment is deleted, its card says so.

Assignees and people @mentioned in a comment are mentioned in Slack as well, when their ReviewMySites and Slack email addresses match. Otherwise the card shows their name.

Keep conversations in Slack

If your team would rather discuss feedback in Slack, turn on Keep conversations in one place at the top of Integrations. Replies then happen in the Slack thread instead of the board. You can still let clients and link guests reply in ReviewMySites, for people who are not in your Slack.

One way, for nowReplies written in Slack stay in Slack: they do not come back to ReviewMySites. Keep that in mind if clients read the board.

If something looks wrong

  • Nothing arrives, and you have filters on. Check What to send: Urgent comments only or Mentions only will skip most comments.
  • No updates on an older comment. Comments from before the connection have no card in that channel, so nothing is posted about them. New ones work. Sending a test also makes a card for the latest comment.
  • You deleted a card in Slack. That comment then goes quiet in that channel, by design.
  • A private channel. Invite the app to the channel so it can post threads and update its cards.
More than one audience? A project can post to several channels: open a connection's ⋯ and choose Add another channel. See everything that connects.
